HIGHLAND Utah. – Last year, Ardent Pest Control’s The Personal Development Program was created to encourage employees to set and achieve goals in four categories: professional, physical, spiritual and social.
Each sales representative meets with a team leader to set and review individual goals in the four categories. A mentoring program was added this year where new sales reps are guided by more experienced employees and get their feedback.
Ardent does weekly “screams” for employees who are actively working towards their goals. When an employee makes a great accomplishment, Ardent donates on behalf of the employee to a homeless shelter. A ceremony to recognize excellence within the company will take place in September.
Jake Loveland, Vice President of Sales at Ardent, designed the program to make employees feel fulfilled and become more balanced individuals. He worked with Ardent CEO Preston Peterson to establish goal categories based on their common experience with sales.
Ardent has found that recognizing individual accomplishments makes employees happier and more motivated. Their goal is to give employees the tools to grow and develop leadership qualities wherever they go in life.
Brenton Clark, associate of Ardent in Virginia, is a mentor and uses the program with his team. He provides feedback by teaching his team members what to prioritize and where they can improve. Clark said, âAfter years of selling you start to evaluate work in different ways. The greatest joy to be in this job is to see the young players progress, becoming a better person overall. ”
Jake Creason, an Ardent sales agent in Missouri, sets professional and personal goals with the program. His main professional goal is the number of sales he wants to achieve. On the other hand, his personal goals are to spend more time with his wife during the summer and to wake up at the same time each day to go to the gym. Creason said, âSetting these goals made me a more complete individual. “
Ardent has said it wants to expand the program to make it available to technicians, office staff and customer service representatives in the future.
